Lesson 35 – The categories ofshirk– Part 3

From the matters which should necessitate fear of falling intoshirkis that the Prophet ﷺ considered shirk being more subtle than the footsteps of an ant.

Also from the matters which should necessitate fear of falling into shirkis that the Prophet ﷺ feared showing off in worship (a form of minorshirk) more than he feared upon hisUmmah the great fitnah of the Dajaal.

Taking photos and videos on a smartphone of acts of worship has greatly facilitated showing off in worship, and can be considered as a great fitnah.

The Prophet ﷺ taught hisUmmah a du’aa to protect them from all forms of shirk:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لا أَعْلَمُ

O Allah! I seek refuge in you lest I associate anything with you knowingly, and I seek your forgiveness for what I do not know. [Bukhari – al-Adab al-Mufrad – Sahih]
